Law Enforcement Leadership in the Midst of Change: Principles That Do Not Change: presented by Dr. Jack Enter – For over 40 years Jack Enter has practiced and taught leadership principles to thousands of law enforcement leaders from around the world. The author of two books on law enforcement leadership, Dr. Enter’s courses have impacted thousands of police supervisors over the years. Given all the changes in law enforcement in recent years, Dr. Enter’s presentation is not to be missed!
Dr. Jack Enter is the author of two books on leadership in policing (“Challenging the Law Enforcement Organization” and “Leadership in the Midst of Change”), and he has helped and encouraged thousands of police leaders both within the United States and around the world.
Leadership Lessons from an OIS: presented by Chief Larry Eggert (Ret.) – In this session, Larry Eggert shares the professional and personal lessons he has learned from the night he was shot in the line-of-duty almost two decades ago. The moment was brief, the lessons – eternal.
Larry Egbert retired as Chief of Police for the City of Lockport after a 35-year career. Larry has been teaching in the law enforcement arena for decades including at local police academies and officer safety at the FBI National Academy. Having served in many different roles during his career, he is currently serving as director of the Niagara Intelligence and Crime Analysis Center, in addition to serving as an adjunct professor at Niagara University and Buffalo State University. Larry holds a Master’s Degree from Buffalo State College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Use of Force Investigations for the First Line Supervisors: presented by Captain James Nightingale – Whenever police are involved in a use-of-force incident, it must be thoroughly and accurately investigated. This leadership task often falls to the first-supervisor on scene and getting it done right is critical for any supervisor. Captain Nightingale shares the principles of conducting a proper use-of-force investigation so that first-line supervisors are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and practical tools necessary to conduct thorough, objective, and legally sound use-of-force investigations. This presentation is ideal for any first-line supervisor seeking to strengthen their investigative competency and fulfill their accountability responsibilities.
Captain Nightingale currently serves with the Camila’s Police Department. Part of his duties include developing and delivering office and leadership development programs. For the department. With a background in firearms, defensive tactics and officer safety, Captain Nightingale brings real-world experience to the training environment. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and holds a Master’s Degree from the University of San Diego. Jim has published articles on various topics for several law enforcement publications including the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, IACP, Police One, and Emergency Services Times – UK.
Case Study: A Blue-on-Blue Shooting: presented by Lt. Paul Veitch (Ret.) – Lt. Paul Veitch was used to investigating violent crime in a nightclub district. Then one night he got the call; officer involved shooting – multiple people shot – one an officer-duty cop from another agency. Lt. Veitch walks attendees through the event and shares with first-line leaders the practical operational and leadership lessons learned from a Blue-on-Blue shooting.
Paul Veitch retired as the Lieutenant in command of the Investigations Division of the Saratoga Springs Police Department. In addition to his time serving as K9 Officer, detective, sergeant, and PIO, Lieutenant Veitch served as director of Basic Criminal Investigations Course at the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Academy for many years and is a member of the adjunct faculty staff at SUNY Adirondack. Paul holds a Master’s Degree from Boston University.
The Honor of Command: presented by Chief Greg Veitch (Ret.) – When an officer is promoted, they assume a whole new set of duties and obligations. This session focuses on the responsibility that all leaders have to serve with honor. Leadership requires sergeants to honor themselves and their fellow leaders, the officers they are responsible for, the culture of the department, and the noble cause of policing.
Greg Veitch retired as Chief of Police of the Saratoga Springs Police Department after a 25-year career in law enforcement. He holds a Master’s Degree in leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh and is an FBI National Academy graduate. A published author, Greg has trained thousands of police supervisors on leadership and management principles through his company, Noble Cause Training and Development, LLC.
