Session Descriptions
The Honor of Command – Not everyone is cut out for leadership. The moment you are promoted, you take on duties and responsibilities that you did not have as a line officer. Everything from ethics to culture to performance now becomes your responsibility. But leadership is more than just the job description and requirements set for in policy. By examining the different facets of leadership and the people that leaders are duty bound to serve, this session will highlight the mindset that leaders need to have and what they need to do to earn the Honor of Command.
BLUE-ON-BLUE: Lessons Learned – Not every bar fight ends in an officer-involved shooting – this one did. From the initial response to the investigation and all that comes after an OIS, this case study of a Blue-on Blue shooting is full of operational and leadership lessons that any police leader will find valuable.
Improving Police Appraisals – It is coming to the end of the year, and it is time for annual performance appraisals! Are your annual appraisals an excellent source of valid data and information, or is your entire appraisal process a gigantic waste of time? This session will examine the best practices in performance evaluation by looking at some common errors made by supervisors, the purpose and process of performance evaluation, and some practical steps on how to conduct better performance appraisals this year and beyond.
